December 2016 Satrap’s Corner

Seasons Greetings, MAP Brothers!

It’s time for our December Satrap‘s Corner where I give you a “behind-the-scenes” glimpse into what’s going on with MAP business.
  • 10 Pins: We are so excited to be ordering the 10 pins based on the design created by Brother Sharvil Boda of Epsilon Omega!  This will be a great way to honor those Brothers who have put in the time and dedication to attend 10 MAP Conclaves!
  • Mid-America Province Newsletter: Thanks to 100% of collegiate chapters and 100% of MAP EC members for contributing!  Wonderful job to Historian Jill Shah for putting it all together!
  • Preparing for Spring Conclave: We are working on making the agenda to ensure that there is time to address all necessary business.  If you have any feedback/ideas, please let me know and stay tuned for more details!
  • Giving Back During the Holiday Season:  There’s a fun, easy way to contribute to the American Diabetes Association (the MAP Philanthropy Project) this holiday season!  Secretary Jessica Chang and the Philanthropy Committee are promoting the Johnson & Johnson “Donate a Photo” event to help raise money to send children to the American Diabetes Association Diabetes Camp. For each photo donated during the month of December, $1 will be given by Johnson & Johnson to this cause.Click the following link for more details:
  • FISH Awards: Congratulations to the recipients of the Fellowship, Industry and Sobriety Awards!  Looking forward to nominations for the High Ideals Award.  Thank you to Chaplain Adrian Hollis (AKA “MAP Chap”) for bringing this idea from Epsilon Rho to our entire province!
  • Recognizing Brothers from your chapter: It’s not too soon to start thinking about Spring Awards.  Please encourage Brothers from your chapter to fill out the “Philanthropist of the Year” award form throughout the year so it’s easier to remember all their philanthropic contributions.
In closing, I want to wish you all a happy and safe holiday season!

November Satrap’s Corner

Greetings Brothers,

It’s November, which means it’s not only time for my next Satrap’s Corner, but it’s also time to remember what we are thankful for and take some extra time to visit family.  I feel very grateful for not only my husband, my biological family and my in-laws but also for my family of Kappa Psi Brothers.  While my biological family is hours and hours away in New York, Philadelphia, St. John’s, Newfoundland, etc., I am fortunate to have my Mid-America Province Kappa Psi Brothers within 8 hours driving distance or less of my home.  This fact has brought me so much comfort for over 4 years, and I wanted to thank you all for inviting me into your homes to celebrate important family events, like charterings, pinning ceremonies, initiations, graduation rituals, and more.  I’m trying to take some extra time this Thanksgiving season to visit you all before the weather gets worse and starts to make traveling more of a challenge, so thank you all for welcoming me in.

I am also very thankful for the chance to serve as Mid-America Province Satrap and for the incredible support from our executive board.  We are hard at work preparing for our next conclave coming up on March 10th and 11th in Lawrence, Kansas!  I can’t believe Rho Chapter is about to host the 10th Mid-America Province Conclave!  My very first conclave was actually the second MAP conclave, which was held in Lawrence, Kansas, so it is exciting to return.  When I was a Neophyte, anxiously serving as delegate for the first time, I had no idea that 4 short years later, I would return as satrap.  My Mid-America Province Brothers have helped me to accomplish more than I ever could have realized as a Neophyte back in Spring of 2013.  For that, I am incredibly grateful.

Happy Thanksgiving!

October Satrap’s Corner

Greetings Brothers,

It was a pleasure to see you all at the recent Mid-America Province conclave!  Thank you again to Province Planning Chair Joelitta Ansong and Regent Cony Hartnett as well as all the Brothers of Epsilon Upsilon for hosting a wonderful conclave!  Medieval Times was a truly unique and memorable experience for the closing banquet, and fun was had by all!  We had a lot of business to discuss during general sessions, and I appreciate everyone’s participation!  Vice Satrap Patrice Davis will be sending out a feedback form in the upcoming weeks, so be on the lookout for that, as we truly value your thoughts and feedback.

I am excited to start my October Satrap’s Corner with a couple reminders:

1)  Submissions for the Fall Mid-America Province Newsletter are due November 1st!  Please send photos, updates, stories, articles to Secretary Jessica Chang (!  For collegiates, this is in lieu of the National Progress Report Growth Opportunities submission for that month.  For grads, we would definitely appreciate your contributions as well!

2)  The Outstanding Graduate Brother Award Nominations are due to Historian Jill Shah ( by November 9th!  This is coming up really soon!  Please send Jill your response (in 100 words or less each) to the following questions pertaining to your nominee:

  1. How does this Graduate Brother continue to uphold our fundamental qualities of Industry, Sobriety, Fellowship, and High Ideals in both their personal and professional lives?
  2. What does this Brother do to encourage continued involvement of Brothers after graduation?

Starting 11/9, chapters will be given one month to review the applications and regents will vote on behalf of their chapter via a poll that Jill creates by 12/9.  Provided that quorum is reached by 12/9/2016, voting will close at 11:59pm and no other votes will be collected.  For future years, we will be able to vote on the recipient at Fall conclave and recognize this Brother at Fall conclave.   The recipient will serve as our guest speaker during the Graduation Ritual in the Spring and have their early registration fee waived.

There is a lot more coming up in MAP that I am excited about….

  • Our next Collegiate Development Committee conference call will be in November!  Historian Jill Shah will be discussing our new awards and how they can be used as tools to help recognize Brothers within your chapters!
  • 10 Pin: In November, I will be reaching out to the regents for votes on the 10 pin designs.  That way, we can get the pins ordered in time for Spring Conclave – the 10th conclave of Mid-America Province!
  • Chapter events!  Please keep inviting Brothers to your events on the MAP facebook group and MAP google group!  Not only do you get points for Chapter of the Year, but it helps us remain close between conclaves!

Thank you all again for all of your contributions to your chapter, our province and the Fraternity-at-large!

I will be continuing to send my monthly Satrap’s Corners out through email in the future, and all Satrap’s Corners can be seen here:

September 2016 Satrap’s Corner

Hello Brothers,

With conclave less than a week away, our province executive board is so excited to see you soon for a fun and productive weekend filled with Brotherhood!

A couple things I’m especially excited about….

    1. Feed My Starving Children Philanthropy Event!  Did you know this organization feeds children in 70 developing nations?  The event is on Friday at 1072 National Parkway in Schaumburg at 6pm sharp!  We must be there on time for the required training.
    2. Trivia Fundraiser!   This event is perfect for those Game of Thrones fans as well as those who have never seen the show or read the books!  It’s a fun way to meet new people during a friendly competition.  It’s on Friday night at 8pm at Fox & Hound.

  • Delegate Orientation!  This starts at 8am on Saturday morning.  While it’s only required for the 2 chapter delegates, the event is open to everyone looking to brush up on Robert’s Rules with Parliamentarian Matt Holderly.

  1. Medieval Times!  This should be a unique and fun time!

There will also be a Ritual Workshop and GCD Workshop following lunch, so be sure to check the agenda.

While it’s important to read and discuss the entire delegate packet with your chapters prior to arrival, I want to direct your attention to a few of the documents.  It is incredibly important to discuss these documents with your chapters before General Session 1!

  1. MAP Committee Proposals: I cannot emphasize enough that there will be a lot more business to attend to compared to previous Fall conclaves.  Please come prepared!
  2. Grad Development_Scholarship Committee Report: A major decision we plan to make during conclave will be if we would like our scholarship to be a Foundation Scholarship similar to Northern Plains Province or if we would like our scholarship to be specific to Mid-America Province.  Immediate Past Satrap Sarah Kuntz and the Scholarship committee have created a list exploring both options, and it is important for your chapter delegates to gain an understanding about how your chapter feels on this topic.
  3. Fall 2016 MAP Legislative Proposals: There are 13 of them, so please read ahead-of-time!
  4. Updated Risk Management Policy & Procedures:  Vice Satrap Patrice Davis will also be sending out an email on this topic to all registered Brothers.  You must review these documents prior to arrival and follow these national policies and procedures during conclave.

I would like to thank Regent Cony Hartnett, Province Planning Chair Joelitta Ansong and the Brothers of Epsilon Upsilon for hosting this conclave!  I cannot tell you how exciting I am to see you all at conclave!  Conclave is coming!

August 2016 Satrap’s Corner

August 26th, 2016

Hello Brothers,

I am pleased to bring you this month’s “behind-the-scenes” glimpse into Mid-America Province Executive Committee business!  The executive committee is getting SO EXCITED about the upcoming conclave hosted by Epsilon Upsilon!  Register ASAP here:!  The deadline for early registration is September 9th, but don’t wait.  Register today!  Okay, I sound like an infomercial….but it’s seriously gonna be awesome!  The agenda along with information about the weekend itinerary can also be located on the website.  Awesome job to Brothers Cony Hartnett and Joelitta Ansong as well as all the Brothers from Epsilon Upsilon who are putting in so much hard work to get this conclave planned!  Special shout out to Brother Brandon Swinford for the web design.

Don’t forget to submit your signed delegate/proxy sheets by September 7th, 1 month before conclave!  Collegiate chapters will also need to submit their signed Risk Management Emergency Contact Forms.  The deadline for your chapter reports/videos will be coming up, so be sure to look out for emails from Vice Satrap Patrice Davis on behalf of the Risk Management Committee.  The Philanthropy Committee is hard at work coordinating teams for the Step Out diabetes walks, so be sure to participate!  There are events all over our province, so it’s easier for everyone to participate.  This is a wonderful way for Brothers from multiple chapters to get to know each other, while supporting an important cause that is so relevant for us as healthcare providers.

Check out our new pinned post on facebook created by Webmaster Emily Hoadley to help everyone finds important links more easily!

Thanks for reading, and I am so excited to see you all at conclave coming up!

July 2016 Satrap’s Corner

Greetings Brothers,

I am here with July’s Satrap’s Corner, Part 2!  Here’s a behind-the-scenes look into Mid-America Province Business!

I am so excited for those Collegiate Brothers about to attend the Leadership Symposium in Albuquerque, New Mexico!  Please tell us all about it when you get back!

This month, we had our first conference call with the Collegiate Development Committee!  We had representation from 100% of our collegiate chapters!  This brings me a lot of confidence in the Brothers that were elected to lead our collegiate chapters.  Every month, we will have a call during which the collegiate chapters will provide updates on what’s going on with their chapters and ask any questions they have.  It provides a forum for collegiates to turn to each other for support and guidance as we continue to grow as chapters and one unified province.  Every month, we will also have a “topic discussion” during which our “guest speaker” will discuss a relevant topic.  This month, Vice Satrap Patrice Davis talked about Risk Management and did an excellent job!

Other committees met this month as well.  The Fundraising Committee is planning a fundraiser/social event for Friday night of conclave to raise money for Mid-America Province.  The Awards Committee has developed several new awards in an effort to recognize more Brothers and chapters for all of their contributions to the province and the Fraternity-at-large.  Historian Jill Shah will be presenting these awards during Fall conclave.  The Graduate Development/Scholarship, Ritual and Communications committees will be having their first conference calls in the very near future!  The Auditing and Legislative Committees will be having their second conference calls in the near future as well.

As a reminder, Historian Jill Shah is still collecting submissions for the 10-Pin design contest.  These pins will be earned by Brothers who attend 10 MAP conclaves, and it’s a great way to make an impact on MAP’s history!  Submit designs to Jill at  I can’t wait to see what you all come up with!

Thanks for reading and I will be back next month for another “Satrap’s Corner!”

July 2016 Satrap’s Corner

Greetings Brothers,

Happy July 4th to all my Brothers!  It is a pleasure to provide you with a “behind the scenes” glimpse into Mid-America Province Executive Committee Business again this month!  Our executive board has already been working closely with the host chapter, Epsilon Upsilon, to map out an exciting weekend for Fall 2016 conclave in Schaumburg, IL!  This Fall’s program will include a delegate orientation led by Parliamentarian Matt Holderly, a GCD workshop led by Immediate Past Satrap Sarah Kuntz, as well as a Ritual Workshop organized by Chaplain Adrian Hollis.  Epsilon Upsilon has a lot of exciting surprises planned as well!

Several of our committees met for the first time via conference call in June:

  • Risk Management: This committee brainstormed ideas to ensure compliance with fraternity policies both within chapters and during conclaves.
  • Philanthropy: Our new province philanthropy cause has been chosen – American Diabetes Association!  There are so many ways to get involved both at conclaves and beyond.  We’re excited about the prospect of participating with our fellow Brothers in events such as Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes and Diabetes EXPO!
  • Auditing: This committee has been hard at work with updating our budget for the upcoming year, so that we can reassess our spending as a province at Fall conclave.
  • Legislative: They are reexamining our current by-laws and looking for potential improvements to present at Fall Conclave.

In other news, our Secretary Jessica Chang has updated our Chapter of the Year form, and I am pleased to see how this form is a continuous work in progress.  Just like we encourage our chapters to grow and develop, we must continue to grow and develop as a province executive board.  Improving the Chapter of the Year report is just one way that our executive board is trying to continue to expand on the work of our predecessors.

In July, we will have meetings for the Awards, Fundraising, Scholarship and Collegiate Development Committees!  And, of course, stay tuned for the next Satrap’s Corner!

May 2016 Satrap’s Corner

Greetings Brothers,

I am so excited to write my first “Satrap’s Corner” and update you all on what the Mid-America Province Executive Committee has been up to so far! My goal is to write to you after every conference call to keep you up-to-date on what’s going on “behind-the-scenes” and let you know what our plans are. It is truly an honor to have the opportunity to serve as satrap this year, and I feel very confident in the executive board members that we have elected. Everyone has his/her own unique experiences and knowledge and skills that he/she can bring to the committee, and I believe we all can accomplish a lot together.

A few items of business that I would like to update you on….

  • The goal is to have the co-chairs selected by the end of May and give priority for committee selection to those that complete the google doc on time.  From there, we will determine any gaps that exist and attempt to fill them in time for Fall conclave.
  • The Collegiate Development and Graduate Development Committees will be formed separately in the near future.

Mid-America Province Satrap

Satrap’s Corner – February 2016

Dear Brothers,

I hope you all had a great holiday season and that your 2016 is off to a great start! In the time since Fall Conclave the EC has been hard at work organizing philanthropy projects, researching budget proposals, and preparing for Spring Conclave.

Secretary Becca Mousseau has been working with the philanthropy committee to organize Relay for Life teams in the Chicago, St. Louis, and Indianapolis areas as well as a clothing drive for Spring Conclave. I encourage you all to join your local teams and support our MAP philanthropy, the American Cancer Society. There will be awards presented at the conclave meeting for chapters with the most participation and financial contribution! Becca has also been reviewing your Chapter of the Year and National Progress Report form growth opportunities and has been giving feedback on ways your chapters can improve and receive credit for all of the work you do. The final Chapter of the Year form submission is due March 15th. Be sure to submit your form in order to not miss out on the chapter awards at conclave! If you have any questions about how to complete the form or ways to improve don’t hesitate to contact your chapter mentors from the EC!

Treasurer Lauren Edwards and the auditing committee have collected feedback from the Province in November/December regarding the potential investments proposed at Fall Conclave. They are now taking this information and working with other provinces to see how they set up their budgets to achieve these goals. They will be preparing a formal budget for presentation to the Province at the Spring Conclave to make sure we are putting our MAP funds to the best use.

The EC has also been working on reviewing our by-laws, updating our website, writing MASK articles, and so much more! Spring Conclave is quickly approaching and Epsilon Rho has been hard at work to organize a great weekend for us all in Rockford, IL! Registration is open and the link can be found on the MAP Facebook page. I encourage you all to register as soon as possible as early registration and the hotel discount end on March 15th! I look forward to seeing you all April 15th-17th in Rockford!
